This Self-Employed Life: Back to Basics
Now that I figured out a new plan of attack for modernemotive I want to go back to basics and start looking at my brand as it stands today. I’m not just talking visual esthetics here (people often assume “brand” means your logo but it doesn’t – more on this later) but how it’s perceived by you. This is where I need your help.

What words/emotions come to your mind when you think of modernemotive and my products?

current, modern, stylish…
linda | February 26th, 2010appealing to a wide variety of people
great colors and designs
high quality
I think of contemporary ways of looking at and celebrating emotions and events. From the words alone I envisage clean, fresh designs with a definite Modern Mid-Century feel. Colour-wise I feel it could either go into muted retro modern tones or bright happy contemporary hues.
It can be so hard to design for yourself! I am just going through the process of having an identity created for some work I want to do. I gave up trying to do it myself and have enlisted the help of a FANTASTIC designer to help me out. Often taking a step back and handing at least one reign to someone else produces the best results – also a talented designer would be able to put you and your ideas in the design in a way you never could yourself! – well that’s what I have learned recently anyway. Might be worth considering…
Amanda | February 26th, 2010Adele,
Not sure when you designed your logo, but for me, it’s one that will definitely stand the test of time. Where you planning on changing your look? I wouldn’t as it really evokes a clean, soothing and modern feel. Develop it, don’t alter.
Michelle from Holley & Gill | February 26th, 2010What always comes to mind for me…
Lightness, airy feel…
…retro but not dingy, very clean and minimalist.
Understated but elegant products.
i don’t always feel the eco-friendly aspect coming forward through branding, maybe that is something to oomph up?
An honest take from a long time follower! Good luck :D

always loved how it reads moderne motive to me sometimes. adds another layer of interest to me.
daisy janie | February 26th, 2010I interpret your brand to be contemporary, green, thoughful, stylish and minimalist.
Emotions it evokes are mainly calm and joy. I love the colours you use, I love how you use white space. Most of all I love your company name. Modern Emotive, Moderne Motive. Beautiful.
Isa Maria | February 26th, 2010I think of your items as beautiful, eco friendly, high quality paper designs
Tara | February 26th, 2010I think of them as having a current and appealing color palette
the designs are subtle allowing the message not to be overtaken by the design
spare, simple, stylish, modern, typographical
Funnily enough I always thought the name of your company was modernnotive (missing the e entirely). I only figured it out when I was trying to find your shop on etsy.
Amy | February 27th, 2010Modern. Simplicity. Light. Mono.
Hope this help. :)
Huey | February 28th, 2010The first word I thought of was ‘friendly’. Pretty much every item in your shop says, ‘send me to your friends!’ Plus, you’re wicked nice! :)
Becca / notrachel | February 28th, 2010clean, simple, modern.
Bess | English Muffin | March 1st, 2010some of my favourite words ;)
Adele-
Stylish. Forward. Witty. Quirky. Stable. Green. Classic.
I love how you use un-saturated colors – it gives my message roots. It looks like my words, thoughts, brand have been here for a while, and are standing the test of time.
Oh. And you’ve been featured! Check out this film my business coach has on her website. Our friend Tasha shot it of her – telling her business story. It shows her at home, in her sophisticated, classy office. If you watch her talking at her desk, you might see something you recognize!
I sent her my beautiful card you created for me, with a heartfelt thank you note inside. Apparently, it was top of mind. :)
