Arthur + Stella

Arthur + Stella

Say hello to the new additions to the family I mentioned last month. Here’s a sneak peak at Arthur the golden retreiver and Stella the dwarf angora rabbit. As I’m having every technological issue under the sun today, it’s just a quick post for now, but I’ll be back with a more official introduction soon.

Happy February everyone.

If only…

Earlier in the week, I tweeted this…

If only I could plop myself down wherever and whenever I please for a snooze fest too!

1 | Please ignore the shitty tape job from when we painted. The tape lifted and we didn’t realize until after the fact. So, I need to scrap off the excess and repaint the trim. Oh the joy!

2 | Some things you just don’t need to see.

3 | Weeks (and numerous heavy objects) later this corner of my rug still won’t lay flat.

Have a great weekend friends. Hope it’s a good one. I plan on enjoying as much of the lovely weather as possible, knitting myself some mittens and having a Harry Potter movie fest. Can you believe J. has never seen one of the movies? (!)

What do you have planned?

Cozy

Riley

While some of us work, others (Riley) get to have a cozy day on the chairs we are not supposed to be on.

Riley

I love how they all wrap their tails around their faces as they sleep. Rest assured those eyes are always watching one way or another.

Saturday

Yesterday was one of those days that was perfect on every level. No plans. Beautiful weather. The freedom to let all your to-do’s fall to the wayside while you just let the day take it’s course. Living in the moment at it’s best.

It started with a yummy breakfast made by J, then a quick trip to pick up some Fall clothes and followed up with another marathon dog walk.  When we set out on these walks we never have plans or intentions to stay out as long as we do. This time 5 hours. Once again, we took the Don Valley trail but instead headed south.

About an hour into our walk we found a spot that allowed us to hit the creek. Wanting to give the dogs an opportunity to cool off, we headed down. I unfortunately headed down literally… ON MY ARSE. Here’s the proof.

We carried on regardless.

James and I have been discussing buying a house. We’ve considered a few areas in Toronto but something tells me we’ll find ourselves in The Beach where James grew up. We always seem to end up there.

I hope your Saturday was just as relaxing and carefree. What did you get up to?

Happy Sunday.

It has begun…

Well friends, remember that condo re-do I’ve been saying I’ll do forever? It has begun. It all started on Thursday when J was rained out at work and headed home early. Rather than let me work in peace, he dragged me out to IKEA for a shopping spree. Many hours and meatballs (15 for $2.99 = SCORE!) later we exited with some furniture, rugs, frames and other knick knacks.

Before I go any further, it has to be said… I ROCKED the how the heck do you put this together IKEA conundrum. Not J but me! Me! Okay, now I can move on.

Some of you may of seen the basic mood-board I did for the main living area. While some of this changed (not too much but more on this later) the plan I had for the hallway completely changed. While walking through IKEA I spotted this and fell in love.

TORSBY Sideboard – IKEA

What this photo doesn’t show is the yummy lacquered finish it has. The description says it’s a foil finish but I’ve no clue what that means and lacquered sounds better anyway. So, yes, I changed everything on the fly while at IKEA. The next morning, I whipped together a quick mood-board for the hallway based around my new love.

Hallway Moodboard

First up, things to note…

  1. I realize the pink and yellow look a little bright but they will be used sparingly.
  2. Only the first two items (from left and please ignore scale) in the wall frames will be used. No clue what will go in the third frame.
  3. Also staying… the Live What You Love print (a gift from the lovely designer herself). The Keep Calm and Carry On print (which is available everywhere and owned by most people on the planet in some form) and the ORGEL Table Lamp.
  4. If you’ve been coveting the Zig Zag Rug from West Elm, get it. It’s my second favorite piece (hello my lovely TORSBY Sideboard) in the room and I’m so glad it’s finally out of storage.
  5. More items will be added to the table obviously. Setting up table vignettes is a whole other headache. Oh yah, and obviously I won’t be using the photo of J and I again.
  6. The A and vases are just there is illustrate other materials I’d like to introduce but it’s early days yet so who knows what will happen (see the bitch point on Note 5).

What you don’t see in this board is the picture ledge we picked up from IKEA. The 3 frames will sit would have sat upon them if we didn’t realize AFTER (i.e. we freaking hung it) that there is too much risk of them toppling if the door slams or a certain 3 Huskies come bustling down the hallway as they usually do.

So we now we have to figure out a way to secure the frames to the wall and our whole idea to avoid multiple holes in the wall is up shit creek. You’d think securing them would be intuitive but it isn’t. There’s zip on the back of the frame. See…

Perhaps J and I are just plain old dumb. It’s entirely possible. We’ve been going non-stop for 4 days and we are frazzled (and I woke up sick today – yah!). That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

Oh and the headaches don’t end there. All the painting it done (we also re-did one of the bathrooms) and most stuff is in place (the big stuff) but there is still lots more to do (i.e. small details). So, expect more posts over the coming weeks sharing J and I’s fun times fumbling through this shit. All I can say is I’m thankful I have a army of Keith’s soldiers in the fridge.

My army of Keith Soldiers

I plan on sitting by my door with a Keith’s in hand figuring out the world of interior design while staring at this which is yet to be hung. Another blog post about this particular WTF coming soon.

Keep Calm and Carry On

Cheers.

My Shadow

Kayden

I never intended on having a third Siberian Husky. But, a few years ago, a neighbour posted a sign on the communal mailboxes trying to get rid of one. As tempting as it was, I figured 2 dogs was probably enough and quickly pushed the temptation out of my mind.

Then, one very cold Winter day, I happened to be driving through the streets and saw a puppy tied up on a front porch. I figured it was the Siberian for sale but quickly glanced away before I caved. When I drove by again a few hours later, he was still outside. Still alone. Still tied up. A twelve-week old puppy.

Needless to say, I was infuriated. Yes, Siberians are “winter dogs” but that doesn’t mean you leave a puppy outdoors in a bitter and cold Canadian winter. When I got home, I couldn’t get the puppy out of my mind. Before I knew it, I had my winter boots and jacket on and was knocking on their door.

A few hours later I had him on a leash and was walking him to his new home. The previous owners had him for a whole 4 weeks or so if I remember correctly. I’m sure it was a Christmas present for their kids because “snow dogs” are cool gifts in the winter. Ugh. Other than Kayden (I named him that btw), I left with nothing more. They pretty much shoved me out the door with Kayden on a leash before I could ask any questions though of course, not before I’d handed over cash. They gave me no food he was accustomed to, no favorites toys, no bed. I guess they wanted to take them back too.

Breaking Kayden wasn’t easy. For a puppy, he was extremely aggressive (with humans and other dogs) and simply out of control. So much so, I wondered if I could even rein him in. The possibility of returning him to the original breeder was discussed. But when push came to shove, I couldn’t turn my back on him. From day one, he was always distant. He would sleep far away from the other dogs and me. But eventually, one day, he just changed. Changed into one of the most loving and hilariously cute dogs I know. Now he never leaves my side and when possible, always has to be touching me. Wherever I go, he goes (yes, including the bathroom). He’s my shadow. My baby.

The Bone Protector

I’ve got a busy week* ahead of me so blog posts might be light this week. Thankfully my dogs are visiting and are already giving me content. I present to you Riley – The Bone Protector.

Bone area is secure so napping ensues with a cautionary eye just in case.

Protector is alerted to a potential threat approaching the bone security zone. Subtle action is taken to establish boundaries.

Potential threat moving closer to the bone security zone. Close guarded protection is required.

Potential threat is now inside the security zone. Time to increase the level of assertiveness.

Potential threat backed down. Phew, no combat required. Mission completed successfully.

* If all goes well, my shop will be reopening on June 28th. Wahoo. More details throughout the week I promise. ;)
